About Our Group

Pétanque is a form of boules where the goal is to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (literally “piglet”) or jack, while standing inside a starting circle with both feet on the ground – Pétanque deriving from the expression pès tancats [ˈpɛs taŋˈkats], meaning ‘feet together’. Please come along and watch or ‘try’… we have spare sets of boules you can use… so no outlay is required!

We hold club competitions twice a year in June and December. Members play to win and hold the Alice McDade Memorial Trophy for a period of six months. This is a singles championship. We also play once a year to compete for the Alan Mayhew Memorial Trophy for doubles. This competition takes place just before the summer move to Miramar. Those who wish to compete for the trophies must attend Pétanque at least 6 times per year.
