U3A newsletter
Dear reader
One of our members, Doug Glossop, and his son, Paul completed the February Challenge which was to run 56 miles (2 miles per day, throughout the month) in aid of Cancer Research which Paul did in Leeds and Doug did here in Spain.

Paul raised over £2,200 in total and the guys in Spain contributed over €300 towards that. Amazing generosity from so many people.

Doug and Paul would like to give a big thank you to the members of the Walking Football and Guitar groups for their fantastic support and encouragement to do this!
"Thanks so much to everyone for your kind words and amazingly generous donations. Paul and I are very humbled and grateful.”
Line Dancing Group
The U3A Oliva Line Dancing group is looking for a new Group Leader as well as additional members. Interested? Then please read on:
Benefits of line dancing
Gets you engaged in a healthy physical activity
Decreases your daily stress level and encourages a better and more healing sleep time
It’s a perfect exercise for improving coordination and balance
It increases cardiovascular health and brain memory
It is seen as an effective treatment for Alzheimer’s, dementia and depression. In fact, from all acknowledged activities to keep your mind healthy, dancing is seen as one of the best – surpassing the benefits of doing crosswords or reading.
So, what are you waiting for? For a chat about becoming the new Group Leader or a new member, please contact me at president@u3aoliva.org or at one of our fortnightly Coffee Mornings at the Pensionistas from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.
Potential New Photography Group
We have had various approaches concerning the re-opening of a U3A Oliva photography group. One member has shown willing to act as Group Leader, but would like to have an idea of interest and to agree the potential scope and objectives of the group before proceeding. Therefore, it is proposed we hold a short meeting for interested parties in Pensionistas Oliva on Monday 20th at 11:30 am. The aim is to discuss individual requirements and skill levels, as well as the range of photographic equipment to be covered. If you are interested in attending a preliminary meeting, please contact the Group Coordinator and/or turn up at Pensionistas at 11.30 am on Monday 20th March.
Ladies self defence is ceasing for the time being, due to a lack of interest.
The Coffee Morning at the Pensionistas on Thursday, March 23 will include a Pre-Easter Sale of Work. As usual we will be open from 1030 am to 1230 pm.
Not only will you be able to catch up with other U3A Oliva members and the Committee as usual, but you will also be able to buy some of the excellent goods that have been handmade by U3A members.
With Easter just around the corner, this will give you a chance to buy seasonal decorations and cards, as well as a range of other timeless gifts and items - some of which you can see in the attached images.
Among the goods on offer are beautifully knitted items, artwork, household items featuring Oliva, decorative soaps, a wide range of jewellery, as well as papercrafts and cards. All the items are available at very reasonable prices and, with some of the proceeds going to local charities, it's a great opportunity to help out.
Please support your fellow members, you won't be disappointed with the quality of goods and the wide variety available whether you are buying something for yourself, looking for a specific gift or just looking for items that can be added to your gift box for use later in the year.
If you don’t find what you are looking for, simply ask the stall holders as most of those with goods to sell will also make items to order.
