U3A newsletter
Dear reader
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR!

Your Committee and I would like to wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year in 2023!
We would like to thank all Group Leaders and members for all the support shown to the U3A Oliva during 2022 and hope that you continue to enjoy all that the organisation has to offer. Remember, if you have a special interest or skill that is not already covered in the activities of our Groups, we would love to hear from you.
Thanks are also due to those U3a members who were stallholders at the three Pre Christmas Coffee Mornings and to those of you who supported, not only these three Mornings but also, the Coffee Mornings since they began.
Best Wishes and take care,
Barry, Nancy, Graham, Steve, Jo, Hilary, Gary and Denise

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

On behalf of the children and staff of El Bastidor after-school centre in Oliva may I thank you once again for the shoeboxes you so caringly and lovingly prepared. 74 in all, a 20% increase on last year.
Fantastic!
The presents were handed out on Thursday 15th December by the two very hardworking elves (Sue Arnott and Jan Vaughan), assisted, and occasionally hindered, by Papa Noel (Steve Hems).
Each age group sang a Christmas song, it was lovely and very moving.
We have attached photos of Papa Noel and the Elves, we are not allowed to show you pictures of the children receiving their presents, sorry.
Thank you all once again and Feliz Navidad.
And a really big thank you to Sue and Jan, without whom it would not have worked so well and so smoothly.

Pennies for the Guys

One more thing, last year we started a campaign, Angela Town and I, to get people to donate their small, loose change to help the Franciscan Refuge in Gandia Real. The idea is simple, please put small change,1,2 or 5 cent coins (or whatever you wish) in a box, tin, envelope or whatever.
Towards the end of Summer 2023 ( yes, I know, time flies!) I will collect them in Oliva and change the money into vouchers to buy food and toiletries.
The Refuge exists solely on charity and every penny really does help.
This year it raised over €100!
For this one I thank you in advance.
Steve Hems.

U3A Oliva Alternative Christmas

Salem Amble Christmas Day 2022
Leader: Joe Bellenie Mobile 636 44 32 77

Please don't reply to this email but direct any queries to Joebelleniegm@gmail.com

Start time
We meet 11:00 at the Bar L’Era Salem, after coffee we drive to the start of the walk following my car. Friends and family welcome.

Route & Description
5K in total, with our picnic break halfway, but hilly and not so good underfoot in places, so stout footwear and sticks are recommended. Dogs are welcome but should be kept under control at the rear of the group.
The festive picnic is to share. We lay tables with Christmas table cloths and spread out the goodies. We usually take a selection of festive tapas plus Cava. Bring whatever you think is suitable, not forgetting cutlery and plates etc.
If bad weather occurs I will email you on the evening before the walk and again by 09:30 on Christmas morning.

How to get there
Take CV60 from Gandia. Leave CV60 signposted to Rafol de Salem CV 615 (don’t go to Rafol). Turn right on to the CV614 to Salem. As you enter Salem, Bar L’Era is on your right hand side. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Salem from Oliva.
You can park in front of Bar L’Era or in the road to the left of the Bar. If you need to car share please let me know.
Things you will need
Festive picnic to share, Cava optional.
Walking shoes, sticks, water.
