Hi Everyone,

I am sorry for the short notice but having liaised with the U3A, the guidance continues to be that they do not condone the restarting of any groups, both indoors or outdoors until the pandemic has run its course.

Taking this in to consideration, alongside the fact that we have moved to level 2 (& Clovid-19 numbers appear on the rise), I don’t feel it would be sensible to restart Petanque this Tuesday as planned.

I know that this will be disappointing for some but please be assured I will continue to review the situation so that we can start playing again as soon as possible.

Please let me know if you have any questions and do share this with anyone I may have missed.

Hope everyone is keeping and see you soon.

Best wishes
Gerry

If you would like to be an active participant in the Pétanque group, please contact the leader via the button above.

Pétanque is a form of boules where the goal is to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (literally “piglet”) or jack, while standing inside a starting circle with both feet on the ground – Pétanque deriving from the expression pès tancats [ˈpɛs taŋˈkats], meaning ‘feet together’. Please come along and watch or ‘try’… we have spare sets of boules you can use… so no outlay is required!

We hold club competitions twice a year in June and December. Members play to win and hold the Alice McDade Memorial Trophy for a period of six months. This is a singles championship. We also play once a year to compete for the Alan Mayhew Memorial Trophy for doubles. This competition takes place just before the summer move to Miramar. Those who wish to compete for the trophies must attend petanque at least 6 times per year.
