Support for Good Causes

This page includes information about some of the good causes and local charities that u3a members are supporting. Maybe there's a way for you to help?

Franciscan Brother's Hospice in Gandia

The Franciscan Hospice in Gandia (often referred to as the Centro de Acogida San Francisco de Asís) is a refuge and nursing home located in Palma de Gandía. It provides housing, food, and 24/7 care for around 60 to 65 homeless, chronically ill, or elderly men who have no other support system.

They are seeking donations that can help improve the lives of the people they support. That could be really practical things like

  • tinned or dried foods (longer shelf lives)
  • toiletries (like razors, shaving cream, soap) or
  • medical products (like disposable pants or useful medications)
  • practical things (like mattresses)

If you'd like to help, then Elena de Ru, one of the new committee support team, can arrange to get them to the hospice. She might be able to arrange collections at our coffee mornings.

El Bastidor school in Oliva

u3a Oliva supports a local school for disadvantaged children, with regular donations and a Christmas present appeal each year to offer each child a present.

Member Susan Arnott also organises English teaching sessions for the pupils.
