u3a Oliva is led by a committee of volunteers who work hard to make sure all our members can enjoy a full life in our part of the world. They work with the Ajuntament / Town Hall to agree how we operate, negotiate access to space at the Pensionistas, and do all the background work to make sure u3a Oliva can operate and thrive. Each year, u3a Oliva members decide who will act as our committee. And under our constitution, we need to have a committee of at least 6 people to make sure we can keep going.
After years of working on your behalf, many of the current committee members are stepping down this year, so it's more important that ever that we have people stepping up to play their part.
The roles on offer
This year we need to fill a range of committee roles - our President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Other essential roles to be filled are Groups Coordinator, Social Welfare Officer, and due to the growth of the membership and groups, the current committee proposes that an Admin Support Officer would also be beneficial.
Here's the full list of jobs of offer.
| President / committee member | Representation of the Association for management and legal purposes. Liaising with the Ayuntamiento, other U3A associations and other organisations for mutual benefit. Acting as Chairperson at committee meetings and AGM. Reviewing and signing the minutes and certificates made by the Secretary. |
| Vice President / committee member | Assisting with the responsibilities of the President and substituting for him / her in case of absence or illness. Maintenance of property inventory. Arranging speakers for the monthly meetings. |
| Secretary / committee member | Guarding the documentation of the Association and maintaining official records. Responding to official correspondence. Preparing and circulating agendas and creating minutes for Committee meetings, and the AGM. Liaising with the Oliva Ayuntamento and the Valencian Generalitat to submit official documentation and to maintain registered association status. Room Bookings in partnership with the Groups Coordinator. |
| Treasurer / committee member | Safekeeping and control of the resources of the association. Preparing financial statements. Paying invoices and balancing the accounts Maintaining financial reports for meetings and the AGM |
| Group Coordinator / committee member | Consulting with the members to determine which new groups are required. Assisting the Group Leaders with setting up and running their groups. General advice and support to group leaders. Coordinating group timetables and room booking in conjunction with the Secretary. |
| Social support | The first point of contact for any member who needs some support. A helping hand or just someone to talk a problem over with. |
| Trips and Events Coordinator | Research, and then develop ideas for trips and events to offer opportunities to the members. Participate in the logistics, organising and booking, and collections of money for trips. Participate in events and trips. |
| Admin Support | Supporting the organisation and other committee roles with administration duties where needed, e.g. data collation for event bookings, trip administration, group outings etc. |
Lynn Capon, our Travel Coordinator, has confirmed that she is happy to continue as a committee member. Lynn was co-opted onto the Committee earlier this year, therefore she will need to be nominated at this stage.

Making a nomination
Any current member of u3a Oliva is eligible to be nominated and elected to the committee. You can nominate yourself, or you can nominate someone else who's willing to accept the role should they be successful. You can make a nomination for any of the roles on offer.
