Lawn bowls is lots of fun, and every easy to pick up. And the u3a group are looking for new members to join them for a game.

The group play each Monday afternoons at the El Cid club in Benidoleig. A session lasts around 2 hours and costs just 8€ per person for the hire fees. But your first taster session is free!

Group leader Trevor says

"It's a really easy game to learn - most of our current members had never played before! They'll give you tuition and practice as you go. It's open to all ages. Just don't forget some smooth bottomed shoes!

And we're a very social group, usually meeting up before or after a game for drinks or some food"

The group normally play in a friendly and relaxed way for a few hours every Monday afternoon. Starting at 1.30 pm (10.00 am in the summer) after registration and green fees we draw for partners and opponents for the afternoon and mostly play pairs with four bowls.

For those who would like coaching, especially those who are new to the game, we will give guidance on techniques and etiquette of the game.

The El Cid Club would like players to be in whites but will accept something close. Footwear can be tricky - the purpose of the rules is to protect the playing surface so they insist on a different shoe for playing. A flat non-heel smooth sole shoe is normally acceptable, as are stocking feet.  Please note for the first couple of occasions come as you wish.

At the pavilion, located in the corner of the play area, there is a selection of bowls of different sizes for your use. There is also all the support equipment that you will need like mats, jacks, scorecards and boards, and would you believe sun hats. Our Group box also has measuring tape and chalk.

Refreshments are permitted at each end of the rinks but must never be taken onto the green. El Cid Bar and Restaurant, under separate management,  provide a range of facilities including hot and cold drinks.

Come give us a try you will be surprised how much fun it is. First session is free to see if you like it.
