Your committee - nominations

As part of our constitution, we ask for nominations to elect key roles on your committee. It's the opportunity to make sure that your committee reflects our membership, by bringing in a range of experience and expertise.

In the upcoming election, all of the current committee roles are open for nominations, including president. In total, we're looking for four main 'officers' (the required roles to run u3a Oliva) and at least two 'ordinary' members. Other members can be invited to join the committee as required.

The Roles on Offer

For some of the required 'officer' roles, the current postholders have offered to stand again for a further year. The current President, Angela Town, Secretary, Belinda Allan and Treasurer, Graham Martin are willing to be nominated again. The current Vice President, Steve Hems, is due to stand down as he's completed a 3 year term. However, all of these roles are available for nomination.

There are at least two other committee members - referred to as 'ordinary' members in the constitution. They volunteer to take on one of a number of other crucial roles to help your u3a run. This could include group co-ordinator, travel and events and almoner / welfare support.

Whilst the constitution only insists on two, u3a Oliva has historically recruited additional committee members to step up and take on some of these important jobs.

Being a committee member needs commitment to the cause and to share the load of managing and delivering a great organisation, that meets the needs of all its members. Committee members are representatives of u3a Oliva, providing a face for the committee to members and external organisations, and helping and supporting where they can. This might mean running coffee mornings to meet members and answer questions, supervising trips or events, or promoting u3a Oliva to prospective members.

Nominations are now closed

Any current member of Oliva u3a is eligible for election for either a key 'officer' or 'ordinary' committee place. To operate, we must have a full committee as above.

All nominated members are required to submit (prior to election) a short statement outlining their suitability for the position they have been nominated for, along with a photograph. If elected, these will then be used on the website and for publicity.

Nominations were accepted online and in hard copy.

The closing date for all nominations was 6pm on Friday 3rd of May. Online, email or hard copy forms received afterwards can't be considered.

What happens next?

If there's only one nomination for a post, then that person would be put forward to the AGM for approval, and then take up the role.

If there is more than one nomination, then members will be asked to choose who they want to take the role on. All members will be sent information about the candidates and will be able to vote in advance of the AGM. We'll email more information about this when it's time to vote.

If you have any questions about the nomination process, then get in touch with the secretary. And If you want to know more about a role, or how you can help the committee in other ways, then email the President.
