Supporting the Next Generation

A central pillar of u3a Oliva’s community work is its long-standing support for El Bastidor, a charity providing a safe after-school environment for hundreds of disadvantaged schoolchildren. The charity offers homework assistance from over 30 volunteers—many of whom are u3a members.

And of course, each Christmas kind u3a Oliva members donate presents to each of the children at the school.

This year’s €500 donation earmarked for essential school materials. "We are grateful to our members for choosing to support this worthwhile cause both financially and practically," said u3a President Angela Town. "The voluntary tutoring provided, particularly the English teaching section organised by member Susan Arnott, makes a tangible difference to these children at risk of social exclusion."

A Thriving Community Hub

u3a Oliva has now reached a record high of 730 members from across our region, attracted by the wide range of groups (from Art Appreciation to Zumba), trips and events.

Beyond its charitable efforts, u3a Oliva has become a vital social and educational hub for residents in the area. The organisation prides itself on being inclusive of all nationalities, aiming to enhance the "living in Spain" experience for everyone involved.

"We have a fantastic range of social and educational activities to suit all tastes," Angela added. "This success would not be possible without the dedicated committee, group leaders, and all those who contribute their time for the benefit of our members."
