Your u3a - try something new

u3a gives you the opportunity to try something new - whether that's picking up a padel bat, flexing at yoga, knitting a scarf or learning Spanish. But one of our members really pushed himself out of his comfort zone.

Hi all who may be thinking of joining and trying something new…..

My name is Barry, a u3a member in my 3rd year now and I would like to share some insight into the u3a Oliva Drama group and my experiences so far.

Firstly, I should explain that I had never taken part in anything remotely “Thespian” before, nor do i consider myself particularly extrovert, however, my experience since joining the u3a has been so fabulous and had encouraged me to explore avenues new…. indeed the Spirit of the u3a!

Although extremely nervous, I attended the audition read through and got through to the end completely unscathed! To my surprise, I was later offered a part,

I accepted and have been learning lines, stage craft and acting skills ever since! Much fun every Saturday morning and a swerve from usual house chores too!

In short, I would thoroughly recommend it, experienced or not. Oh and hope to see you in the audience of our show

u3a Oliva Drama's next show is "The Retirement of the Witches of Ipswich' on the 9th and 10th of May. It's completely free, but please consider buying a raffle ticket. And of course you'll be able to see Barry's debut performance! Please come along and offer your support.

And if you're looking for something new to try - have a look through our list of 40+ groups. There's loads on offer.
